Red wood.

I constantly have problems keeping my jewelry in order. It usually looks like the bowls of jumbled jewelry at Forever 21 and I can never find what I'm looking for. I wanted something I could hang my necklaces on. Of course my first step was to browse pinterest and I found something I knew I could handle. All I needed was an old piece of wood and mix matched drawer knobs.
I found this old piece of wood working out on the field one day with Chap. Guess there was a red barn on our land at one point. And I bought seven drawer knobs (super cheap at Hobby Lobby and usually on sale), all different, but all coordinating somehow. My favorite is the black and white one that looks like marble.
All I needed was a drill and a ruler. I drilled seven holes in the wood, making sure that the drill bit was smaller than the screw, and then I twisted all seven knobs into the wood. Notice that I didn't twist them in all the way. I wanted to leave a little space for a necklace or two to hang from.

Star Struck.

So there's this girl. Her name is Kendi. She has a fashion blog. I've been following for about a year. She opened up a store in Texas called Bloom. The other night was the one year anniversary of the store. We went. I met Kendi. I was star struck. She was so lovely and has such a sweet personality. Bloom was amazing. The cupcakes were yummy. Daddy sat on his phone. I tried on clothes. I stared longingly at the racks. Then I spent money. And I took a picture or two. We ate at a yummy burger joint. We walked around downtown McKinney. And we were throughly satisfied. And all was well in the world.

Four Favorites.

1. My first Texas football game was a success. The temp. dropped about ten degrees so it felt wonderful. I still can't completely commit to liking the sport though. It just can't compete with English football in my eyes. (the 'real' football)
2. We found a cute bistro in a nearby downtown area and it was perfect. Bistro/Bakery/Antiques. The perfect combo.
3. Granny and Pete flew in this week and we've had so much fun with them. Clearly, if you've been following any of my families twitter accounts, its pretty evident that they are quite humorous. This is a picture of the stash of English junk food they pulled out of their suitcase when they arrived. My particular request was the Cadbury's Clusters. I only asked for one bag and they brought four. Lucky me! And trust me, you don't even want to know what Monster Munch is.
4. I found this vintage John Wayne poster painted on the wall of an old Cinema. What a stud.

I was able to go to Kendi's 1 year anniversary of her store, Bloom, last night and it was fab. Had such a great time. Of course Kendi was the sweetest. Blog post to follow. :)

I don't know if I told you this, but since moving and visiting the nearby abandoned downtowns, my dream is to revitalize an old building into a coffee/pottery/antiques/bakery shop. I'll call it that too. It's catchy right?
Although sad to see these old buildings and think they must've been spectacular in their day, it gets my creative juices flowing every time I look in a window. The picture above is the most beautiful interior we saw. So much character, and such a gorgeous space. The staircase and balcony, the lovely original hardwood floors, and the exposed brick wall is just too much for me to handle.
All I need is 50 grand. Anyone??

Pink Crayons.

I read a recent blog that talked about colored jeans and their abundance in American closets. I too love colored jeans but was only brave enough to buy some after seeing the standard of royal fashion herself, Kate Middleton, wearing a beautiful skinny coral jean. Hot pink is close enough. There's something special about making your legs look like giant pink crayons, isn't there?

One of the advantages of living out in the country is that one often finds random animals wandering around either lost of let loose. Sadly in Texas the latter is usually the case especially with horses, as they've become too expensive to feed and maintain. This animal however, was happily set loose, as we've come to understand that donkeys are not particularly cherished on the farm. A good animal to have around cows and other animals, but usually very aggressive, and generally they don't serve much of a purpose however cute they may be.
This very cute donkey made its way onto our farm one afternoon and lived with us for about a week until it found its way out of our fences and presumably on to better pasture. We got pretty attached and even gave it a name. There was some conflict as Princess wanted James (named after our primary school in England) and I wanted Jimmy (sounded cuter and because I love Jimmy Johns). We never really got the chance to make up our minds as it disappeared the next day. Perhaps we'll meet again Jimmy.

This weekend I took a trip to the great city of Dallas to visit a friend from college. She lives downtown and I couldn't have asked for a better tour guide. She took me to so many great boutiques (starved of in my small town), the famous Pearl Cup for a latte, the art district, the north park mall (incredible), amazing Mexican restaurants, and a scenic tour of downtown. Needless to say she sold me. Currently working on how i can make it up there more often.
